The Lord of the Rings

Saruman, also known as Curunír, was one of the Istari, or Wizards, sent to Middle-earth to aid in the fight against Sauron. He was initially the head of the White Council, tasked with coordinating the resistance against the Dark Lord. Saruman was renowned for his intellect and knowledge, particularly in matters of lore and rings of power.

Over time, Saruman's desire for knowledge turned into a lust for power. He became obsessed with the One Ring, believing he could master and use it to bring order to Middle-earth. This ambition led him to betray the White Council and ally himself with Sauron, though secretly hoping to supplant him. He began breeding Uruk-hai and fortifying Isengard as a base of operations for his own army.

Saruman's schemes were ultimately thwarted by the Fellowship of the Ring and the Ents of Fangorn Forest. He was defeated and his power broken, leaving him a shadow of his former self. He was eventually killed by his servant Gríma Wormtongue in the Shire, bringing a tragic end to a once-noble being who fell from grace.
